Maya’s Pre-Dream Rituals
We prepare for the day to come, but what about the dream space we are about to dive into? When we sleep, we are exposed to the energies and influences of the astral realms. Thoughtful preparation before dreaming is essential for safe astral travel, lucid dreaming, a good sleep, and even waking life! Maya Takobayashi shares her pre-dream rituals, what they mean, and why they matter.
I have made my room a sacred space for dimension hopping, where I explore different realities through my minds eye. Every morning and every night I do my sadhana (my daily spiritual practice) here.
Before I do my sadhana, I have to clear the space I am working in. It is important to clear space because when exploring the astral realm, you open a “door” all types of energies can notice. If you don’t clear your space, malevolent spirits can enter and cause you, and anyone living with you, harm.
How I Clear Space
Bells
Clapping
Spraying medicinal herbs (essential oil spray)
Burning sage
Singing bowls
Reading aloud a protection evocation
Before I go to sleep, I like to explore the dream realm without actually sleeping. My method is to set an intention of entering the dream space and chant my manifesting mantra. I use the chant ara kara, which helps me manifest my desires, whatever they may be. In this case, I manifest the Hindu goddess, Kali, to enter my dream space.
Kali is one of the most misunderstood goddesses, as she embodies death and time. However, she removes all negative energy which no longer serves a purpose; clearing away a part of you which has “died” and holding space for transformation. She is also the guardian of the cosmos, which is what I want to explore in my dream state.
As I repeat ara kara, I focus on my third eye (the pineal gland) to transcend to this realm. I visualize Kali before me; hear, smell, and feel her presence. When I am finished with the manifesting mantra, I do my pranayama breath work. Pranayama means universal light source energy. Pranayama breath work is an active form of meditation that helps release mental and physical blockages / tension. Through this practice, I enter a higher state of consciousness where I have no control over how my body reacts. In this state, Kali ma holds space for the release of suffering. When done, I come back into my body.
After this process, it is important to ground oneself so I sit in the lotus position holding two rocks in my hands while breathing through my nose. I make sure to always follow up with a drink of water to hydrate as well as evoke fluidity into my life.
Before I drift to sleep, I ask spirit to send me messages through my dreams to help me through my everyday life on Earth ♁
