How to Remember Dreams Like “Real Life”

Your dreams can be just as lucid and meaningful as waking life, it just takes a little consciousness.

First let me clarify that we all dream. You may not remember your dreams, but they are still happening.

For hours of our lives we are having real emotional, spiritual, and mental experiences. Although they aren’t physical, we may even experience physical “sensations” in our dreams.

By ignoring half of our experiences in our lifetime, we miss a ton of information and, most importantly, GROWTH.

How to Remember Dreams

  1. Can You Even Remember Your Day?

Let’s start simple. How can we expect to remember the vague and obscure events from the astral plane if we can’t even recall our day?

At points throughout the day and before going to sleep, try to remember your entire day in as much detail as possible. This is a simple consciousness practice, which if you get in the habit of, will increase your awareness since your brain knows it will need the information later on.

Increasing awareness of waking life in any way makes it that much easier to be more aware when we are in our dreams.

  2. Intend on Remembering

Before drifting of, set the intention that you will be conscious of your dreams and that you will be able to remember them easily once you wake up.

This brings more energy towards doing so.

  3. Consumption

Weed, alcohol, screen-time, etc. decrease dream recall.

Mugwort, staying hydrated, reading or meditating, etc. increase dream recall.

  4. Wake Up Slow

One of the largest impacts on how well we remember our dreams is how we wake up. Jumping out of bed, going on our phone, sudden light or noise (alarms), are all factors that can almost “snap” us away from the entire experience we just had and into this world.

Our conscious mind loses touch with what was just going on and drifts further away as we continue through the day.

However, if we open our eyes slowly and take some time to look back what we can remember, we bring it into our conscious mind.

  5. Write It Down

We may feel like remembering what we can is enough, but honestly, writing down dreams is a whole other level.

We can uncover patterns we probably would have never noticed otherwise. It also causes deeper memories to surface because writing requires so much self-inquiry.

Don’t feel limited to “everyday” concepts and norms, allow the descriptions of your dreams be as surreal or abstract as they really were.

Of course, there are many other factors and tools to uncover and integrate to develop your dream recall. These are just my “fundamentals” to dream recall.

Much love!
